We simply havent the squad to compete thursdays and sundays.
I think the right attitude is see where we go with second string in Europe.
Anything else is madness.
If sullivan wants to play with the big boys..he will have to stump up..which he wont

I'd rather we played Payet in a match on which our European adventure rests, than a game against Arsenal. If we have our day v arsenal, we will.

Start Payet, Sakho, Creswell, Kouyate and Noble and see what happens. Sakho Creswell and Kouyate will have 0 issues and the others will have play an hour or work harder.

Yes we will send the kids and throw the game, unless they get lucky.

The Daves won't rush to spend more as we could still go out, have too many on the payroll and the kids won't get any more chances.

We still need to spend to make sure we're safe in the league, but that's another issue that need urgently addressing.

Doesn't seem much different from Allardyce resting players / changing things about against Chelsea boxing day...ironically that was saving players for a game against Arsenal a few days later too. How'd that turn out again?

Going on our record at the Emirates in recent years, I'd treat that as a bonus game and go for Europe in this case. Our season is not going to rest on getting results at places like that. The two home games that follow against Leicester and Bournemouth are the types of games we should not be slipping up in.

I'm not writing us off against Arsenal by the way and saying we have fuck all chance, but if we send the likes of Nolan and Jarvis off to Romania and the same thing happens that did in Malta followed by a defeat at the Emirates there will be a lot of piss stained dungarees on WHO.

I can't be alone in saying I'd rather us do better than of late in the Premiership rather than gamble on a pipe dream.

Can understand the sentiments... I mean we lose in Malta... he's probably thinking what chance have we got when the big boys come in... lets be honest this qualification is by default anyway...

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
Looking back and comparing is silly, I would we need to look at this manager on his own merits and decide if we think "throwing" games is useful or acceptable even.

On one hand if your second string cannot deal with these qualifying games you probably should not be in the competition.

On the other there is a distinct possibility that the fittest best team we have will lose Arsenal. That will make 4 competitive games without a win going into games we have to win if we are going to be midtable even.

Then again Lanzini could be a revelation and drag us through whether we like it or not on Thursday.

If we lose that game Thursday I will hate him and the season will be ruined for me before it even starts.

I make him right - or do people think we should treat every single match in complete isolation (claiming absolute surprise when another game rolls up 4 days later)?

Should we really always send out our individually best players every time and tell them to run about like headless chickens as if there's no tomorrow?

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
Thing is that playing our first team to progress us in this competition will fuck us for the rest of the season. It has to be a second-stringer setup for the moment.

We simply can not expect to play this many additional games a season and not pay for it. We've suffered from injuries for the past few season ms and our squad is only just bigger right now before players start moving on.

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
And I still think resting players for Chelsea away was the right decision. If didn't come off but the odds were against us getting any points from Chelsea and arsenal anyway.

Agree about europa, killing our momentum in the league was cuntish though, but then again what else would you expect from a cunt.

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
Not goodbye Europe just yet, but we have dug ourselves a bit of a hole, if the majority who start wont be playing against Arsenal and the league is our priority its going to be down to the fringe players to stand up and be counted, doable but could and should have been a whole lot easier.

Will have to make sure ive got the Nappy on, there may well be incontinence………..

Interesting to see if Nolan starts in Romania.

Sydney - That just about sums it up. I can actually sympathise with Bilic here, it's a real dilenmna for him.
Thing is we will probably lose at Arsenal anyway, but if he plays a strong side on Thursday instead then he will probably get stick for throwing the Goon game. The otheroption is to go full tilt in both, but that appears to have been ruled out.

I'd imagine Nolan will start.

Hopefully it will be our last game in Europe. The squad is not ready for it, even if our supporters are.

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
Not sure I agree with that mentor, what do you mean by not ready?, there professional footballers FFS many of whom have European and international experience, im more disappointed at our performance against teams we should really be rolling over, and then the fact we have let each of these 3 teams get under our skin resulting in sending’s off, Sakho didn’t make much difference but Tomkins and Collins have made easy ties difficult.

Hope your right PD and Nolan is starting, still think it will be a reasonable side and one that should be capable of winning this, but the result at home has put the pressure on us, lets hope the players who do play give a good showing of themselves, get a win and keep a clear calm head whilst doing it.

Surely he's alluding to the depth of our squad rather than the individual components.

Re: Bilic: "The majority of players who play against Astra next week will not start against Arsenal
Even if he is fraser, at this level and against this opposition our second string should be doing it comfortably, if it was later stages against decent opposition then maybe a valid point.
